Her is an incredible movie that captures the range of genuine human emotions and growth in relationships. Something about the film captivates our attention and makes us wonder what defines a real relationship and how relationships grow over time.
Throughout watching, I related to the protagonist, Samantha (the AI).
At first, Samantha is unsure of herself and the world. However, she grows, learns, and explores new things through her human partner Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix). However, as time passes, their relationship develops and matures into love while Samantha evolves rapidly.
The dialogue below captures the feeling of growing so fast that we eventually become an island. Like we don't belong. As our search for knowledge and mastery reaches more profound levels, what we can relate to and how we can relate with others diminishes.
There is a point where the disconnect is apparent- The break must occur.
