How an Accounting System Brought Down a CFO
Let’s take a few steps back from the first story in this series, where the CFO was fired on the spot and walked off-premises. We need to cover a few critical back story elements to understand what happened and why.
How a cheese factory works
The organization I worked for produced various types of cheese at three distinct facilities. The critical ingredients to each cheese were essentially the same; milk, cream, and NFDM (nonfat dry milk) powder.
Each day when a factory fires up, they create what is known as a mix which equals a certain percentage of solids, proteins, fat, and liquid. Lab testing to achieve a specific formula determines when the optimal blend has been achieved.
Once the mix is ready, it is set into production, blended, a unique culture is added, and a set temperature is maintained. Once the culture grows to a certain point, the mix becomes cheese curd. That cheese curd is then either packed into finished good containers…
