Learn How to Stand Out From the Competition and Win
Developing a winning strategy as a writer is essential for achieving writing success. As discussed previously in this WRITER’S STRATEGY EXECUTION WORKSHOP series, strategy is a guiding light that provides direction for a writer while highlighting where you are and aren’t most likely to stand out.
The following article will review the strategic process overview and discuss long-term goals by understanding the forces that shape the highly competitive writing ecosystem and identifying your opportunities. Suppose we were to establish long-term goals before assessing the competition. In that case, we could potentially set ourselves in the wrong direction and waste lots of time, energy, and effort not to achieve much.
Strategy can be viewed as building defenses against the competitive forces or finding positions in the industry where the forces are weakest. Awareness of one’s capabilities and the causes of the competitive forces will highlight areas where a writer can stand far out from the competition and avoid it. Once having assessed the forces affecting competition in the writing industry and their underlying causes, a writer can identify the strengths and weaknesses of their current plan and performance.
