Since 06/2021, I’ve published 21 books on Amazon. From roughly the same period, I’ve published ~1,000 articles across my website portfolio.

With my experience, I’ve listed down the main characteristics of writing for books vs. blogs.

Characteristics of Books

  • The cover matters a lot toward overall success- it typically needs to be professionally designed
  • Readers are reluctant to buy/read books without reviews and ratings
  • Difficult to edit and revise. Text and covers have to be reformatted
  • You need to create launch projects and coordinate beta readers for each book
  • Selling books is often based on who you are and how big your existing audience is
  • Book-selling platforms provide nearly no data, leaving you blind to understanding what is and isn’t working
  • Perfectionism is the requirement. Readers have high expectations and no tolerance for even minor punctuation or spelling errors
  • Require extensive word-of-mouth marketing
  • Requires getting a book deal to reach the masses
