A drawing of Hamilton in Washington's notebook

Over the last few months, I've been thinking and toying with creating a new vision of what I want my work to symbolize and what I want to use as a representation of what I'm after in my professional field- Management Accounting.

The Michael Jordan of Management Accounting? Nah, too bold for now.

The David Maister of Management Accounting? From speaking to him a few times, he's a bit too grumpy for me.

The Alexander Hamilton of Management Accounting? Well, now, this one's got a good ring to it, right?

Of course, Alexander Hamilton has become much more famous over the last few years, but he's always been a favorite of mine. I've read the same biography by Ron Chernow that Lin Manual-Miranda read before embarking on writing his blockbuster musical by the same name.

If you don't know the story by now, Alexander Hamilton rose to one of the most influential roles in our country at a critical time.

Despite being an outsider, despite being poor or well connected, and despite nearly all odds a man can bear, Alexander used his incredible talents of writing and speech to rise and rise before meeting an early death.
