There’s a coldness you have to accept in being a man

Only women, children, and dogs are loved unconditionally. A man is only loved under the condition that he provides. -Chris Rock

Society frequently sees men at the top of the world and industries, leading new ventures and becoming the faces of innovation and prosperity.

Perhaps unfairly, some say. There seems to be a non-stop public hand-wringing over the imbalance between the sexes and who is on top.

“Why aren’t women 50/50? Women should be 50/50 on everything- company leadership, boards, startup founders, wealthy investors”… the list goes on.

Often, I feel, the common consensus is that we, men, have some unseen advantage that must be torn down and equalized. However, here is what the real story the stats tell:

What the research says:

As of 2022, Pew Research Center found, 30 percent of U.S. adults are neither married, living with a partner nor engaged in a committed relationship. Nearly half of all young adults are single: 34 percent of women, and a whopping 63 percent of men.

Here’s more:

According to McKinsey, men hold 60% of manager-level positions, while women hold 40%. This means that fewer women are promoted to senior management positions, and the number of women decreases at each subsequent level.

And here is Chris Rock himself:

It would seem that men do both better and worse than women. Men cannot coast somewhere in the middle and hope that someone or something comes along to solve their problems.
